WTO accession issues

Article Abstract:

The most important and controversial issues in World Trade Organization accession process and the benefits to applicants and current members of accession are discussed. The very slow pace of accession negotiations is burdensome to both applicants and incumbent members. The slow pace is partly due to the poor preparations made by applicants and by the exorbitant requirements made by incumbents. A set of guidelines which can be implemented to all accession negotiations and intended to streamline the accession process is presented.

Article Abstract:

The article examines causes for the large and increasing rate of unemployment for Germany's low-skilled employees. These include a skill-based technical shift, a rise in between-industry trade, and a labor market adjustment failure. It is posited that German economic policy should target worker employability and wage structure flexibility.

Halving Poverty by Doubling Aid: Is There Reason for Optimism?

Article Abstract:

A critique of World Bank procedure is presented, specifically the process of linking financial aid to recipient nation policy. A case is made for decoupling aid from national policy and creating a supranational endowment fund, which would finance research findings on development of common international goods.
