The UK market for wristwatches was estimated at 14.8 million units in 1994, worth 475 million pounds sterling. The market is dominated by quartz analogue watches with an 86% share of value sales and 80% of volume sales. The UK's wristwatch market is supplied mainly by imports, particularly from Hong Kong and the Far East. The watch market is supplied by a large number of players, with Zeon Ltd.'s Zeon and Time Products' Sekonda brands having the most volume sales. The watches market is set to fall from 500 million pounds sterling in 1995 to 493 million pounds sterling by 1999.

The UK market for watches reached an estimated 615 million pounds sterling in 1999, up 25% from 1994, with growth set to continue in the short term. Within the total market, quartz digital accounts for some 19% of volume, while women's watch sales have grown at a faster rate than men's watches. The UK watch market is fragmented, although the leading brand is Zeon with a 14% share, followed by Sekonda with 10%. The market is expected to reach 670 million pounds sterling, at current prices, in 2000, rising to 869 million pounds sterling by 2004.
