World-class training center helps South Carolina companies compete globally

Article Abstract:

The World Class Training Center of Tri-County Technical College is one of the factors contributing to the competitiveness of the South Carolina labor force. The center provides workers world-class skills training that has become the attraction for companies marketing their products globally. The Jacobs Chuck Manufacturing Co is one of the early supporters of the program, supplying the initial training contract for the program. The success of the South Carolina training program is seen in the state's increased out-migration and increased per-capita earnings of residents.

Universities working with communities to foster entrepreneurship: a case study in rural Vermont

Article Abstract:

The community entrepreneurial efforts undertaken by the University of Vermont faculty was described in relation to promoting entrepreneurship at the business community level. The first project involves a community work together with a group of area innkeepers which resulted in the creation of marketing brochure and establishment of relationship between innkeepers and local merchants. The second project involves a community work with an informal group of merchants that is directed towards enhancing the economic condition of the community's downtown.

Training: going against the flow

Article Abstract:

Jamestown, NC-based Guilford Technical Community College (GTCC) has established a training division designed to promote human capital development. The GTCC's Business and Industry Services offers training courses to clients that are divided into hard and soft skill categories. Categories included in GTCC's training programs include supervisory skills, job-related training and team development.
