IMF approves over $500 million to help ongoing Yemeni reforms

Article Abstract:

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) disclosed on Oct 31, 1997 that it has authorized a loan and credit package amounting to roughly $512 million to sustain Yemen's economic program for 1997-2000. The country's reforms include the enforcement of a prompt and comprehensive privatization program and efforts to boost competition. International monetary support for Yemen's medium-term 1997-2000 reform plans is critical in light of Yemen's huge external financing gaps over this duration, said an IMF spokesperson.
