5.8 billion pounds sterling

Article Abstract:

UK universities are forecast to have a funding gap of 5.8 million pounds sterling in 2005 to 2006. Funds can be raised through charging fees to students, but the resources gained may not benefit higher education and may instead replace money withdrawn by the government. The Committee of Vice Chanellors and Principals (CVCP) has noted that the Australian system protects money raised from students by placing it in a trust. it is proposed that students pay a third of tuition fees and use loans for maintenance.
