A little extra ordinary

Article Abstract:

Leiden University, Netherlands, launched its policy document 'Coursing for Quality' in 1995, as a result of a fall in budget and the need to focus on fewer activities. The university decided to focus on excellence and is demanding high standards from students and staff. Leiden also wants to have a more flexible policy for human resources, and will take on more temporary employees and doctors of philosophy. Salaries and conditions of employment will also be affected by the performance of staff.

Food for the mind

Article Abstract:

Neurotic illnesses such as depression, anxiety and alcoholic dependence often have a significant affect on eating patterns and diet. Research has shown that as many as 14% of the population suffer from these illnesses at any one time, although these people are not usually treated under the national health service unless they have severe psychotic problems. Greater emphasis should be placed on helping people with these ailments, for the greater good of the nation.

A little fine-tuning will put food on all our tables

Article Abstract:

The move towards organic farming will not help deal with current issues of world hunger and the expected increase in food required for a growing global population. It is also contended that, as more space is actually needed to grow food organically, organic farming is not as environmentally friendly as some suggest.
