A shot of hope to take home

Article Abstract:

Anita Asiimwe, a postgraduate student taking an one-year course at Dundee University, believes that the course that she is taking will help her in her efforts to combat HIV/Aids in her native Rwanda. Asiimwe is taking the course at Dundee under a new scholarship programme for Rwandan women which is coordinated by Gerda Siann, emeritus professor of gender relations at the university.

Over 15% of trainee teachers founder

Article Abstract:

Just over 15 percent of secondary teacher trainees fail to qualify, while for primary trai nees failure rate is just under 12 percent. However, failure rates of 20 percent or more are not uncommon at individual universities, with Greenwich University having a 37.8 percent failure rate for secondary teachers and Brunel University a 33.2 percent failure rate.

Postgraduates told: those who can, teach

Article Abstract:

Trevor Salmon, director of learning and teaching at Aberdeen University, told a national postgraduate conference hosted by the university that if you do not want to teach then do not become an academic. Professor Salmon told the conference that good teaching is a matter of integrity and was expected by the outside world.
