A subject directed to take up less space

Article Abstract:

Drama academics in the UK fear that much of the development and growth that has taken place in the field over the last 40 years could be undone by changes to funding and cost-cutting that, they claim, could "suck the lifeblood" out of the subject as a laboratory discipline and return it to the classroom theory that was its mainstay during the 1960s and 1970s. Academics contend that if the practical element is taken out of university drama study it will be robbed of much of its value, and that the message needs to be gotten across that drama is both a vocational and a serious academic subject.

Colleges' mixed report

Article Abstract:

Further education colleges that are major higher education service providers could develop a role similar to that of community colleges in the US, according to a Government-backed review of the further education sector produced by Sir Andrew Foster. The report notes, however, that the majority of further education colleges should stop dabbling with higher education and simply focus of developing the skills and employability of their students.
