Cinderella sector needs better outfit

Article Abstract:

A report on education and participation in the United Kingdom argues that more attention should be paid to the role of further education. The report, by Helena Kennedy, sees further education as important in promoting social cohesion as well as economic regeneration. She is concerned that too much emphasis on the market could hamper the social role of further education, if colleges focus on students most likely to achieve good grades. She argues that labor unions and employers should co-operate to encourage learning in the workplace.
