America slow to take international outlook

Article Abstract:

University students in the United States remain largely cloistered from the realities of international affairs despite wars and the rise in global terrorism, according to a report produced by the American Council on Education. The report found that universities in the US have done little to encourage international education, with only one-quarter of the country's universities ranking it in their top five priorities.

Camps help fill campus coffers

Article Abstract:

Colleges and universities in the United States are generating additional revenue by renting out their campuses during the summer months when they are usually closed. While the majority of institutions are reluctant to disclose how much they generate from summer programs, New York University did reveal that its summer program for international students generated in excess of US$1 million/yr.

US elite compete to raise billions

Article Abstract:

Top US universities are competing for foundation money and corporate donations as they aim to raise at least USDlr 1 billion each. Columbia University is aiming to raise USDlr 4 billion, while Stanford University is hoping for USDlr 4.3 billion in donations.
