'American parents think, rightly, that an education in how to think analytically is better value than narrow vocational courses'

Article Abstract:

An examination of the university system in the United States, with specific attention paid to institutions with religious affiliations. It is argued that universities with religious affiliations are so popular in the US because they provide students with a good general education that will enable them to take their place in the world as good, employable people, and because they are the institutions that are the most likely to deal with the "large questions" and help their students develop a value system.

'Diversity doesn't seem to do any thing for education. Students did not think their education had improved since their college became "more diverse"'

Article Abstract:

An examination of the widespread belief that diversity in higher education is good is examined in the light of the return of the concept of affirmative action to the US Supreme Court. It is argued that the idea that an education in diversity is just better is simply something that liberals tend to think, but that it would be interesting if there were some arguments in favour of something other than a tautology.

'Students need help with two things: shedding the burden of unreasonable expectations and getting away from overprotective parents'

Article Abstract:

An analysis of the levels of stress that students in the US and UK seem to suffer from and the reasons for this stress. It is argued that the two main factors behind student stress are unreasonable expectations and overprotective parents, and that these two factors are interrelated in such a way as to compound the problems for the student.
