An eye on big results with small price tags

Article Abstract:

The C$10 million Microvariability and Oscillation of Stars (Most) telescope was launched by the Canadian Space Agency in 2003. Jaymie Matthews of the University of British Columbia is Most principal investigator and he notes that, especially when compared with the likes of the US's estimated US$720 million Spitzer Space Telescope, Canada has managed to bring "big astronomical science within the budget of a small country".

Exploring Mars on planet Earth

Article Abstract:

An overview of the work being done by the research laboratory run by McGill University on Axel Heiberg Island, in the Arctic Ocean. The laboratory has been working with Nasa to try and determine whether or not understanding the permafrost in the Canadian Arctic could give an insight into whether life could exist on Mars .

Baby-boomers crisis warning

Article Abstract:

The effect of the news that Ontario, Canada, is experiencing an unexpected influx of university applications in 2007 is presented. However, while some believe the demand could go down as the baby boomer crisis declines, it is argued that the population of 18- to 21-year-olds will continue to grow over the next decade.
