Articulating a vision for vocational education

Article Abstract:

Vocational education has often been misunderstood by many people including policy-makers. They not have been aware of the contributions that vocational education has been making to ease several educational problems. To get the recognition it deserves, vocational education has to create a vision ofquality education. This vision would consist of identifying jobs in terms of the skills needed to perform them and developing pragmatic instructional goals to provide students with required competencies. The implementation of such vision would surely help place American education for the future.

The path to reauthorization

Article Abstract:

The American Vocational Association (AVA) is preparing itself for the reauthorization of the vocational education bill by Congress in 1995. AVA aims to put across its mission and goals to the legislators by developing proposals that pinpoint relevant issues and present the positions of vocational educators. To obtain data for the proposals, AVA surveyed a wide range of organizations that would be affected by the bill reauthorization with the hope that the eventual proposals would be in line with Congressional objectives.

Keeping up with the market

Article Abstract:

Vocational educational programs should meet the changing needs of the employment market and the dynamic nature of the US economy. Since vocational and technical education are invariably linked with the economy, vocational education should address the economic as well as educational needs of its students. Vocational educators should ensure that students are adequately equipped with skills which will enable them to compete in the employment market.
