Students may scupper merger

It is thought likely that Aston university students will veto plans to merge Aston and Birmingham universities. A joint strategy group is to report in December 2000 on the creation of a new 28,000 student institution.

UCE proposes Aston merger

Article Abstract:

The University of Central England (UCE) has agreed to dissolve and merge with Aston University in a move that will create a university with over 30,000 students and turnover approaching UKPd200 mil. The new university will retain the Aston University name, with all UCE staff being transferred with their employment conditions intact.
