Blurred division of the future

Article Abstract:

A recent workshop on mixed media looked at the impact of the growing use of digital technology on the information, cultural heritage and educational industries. Speakers looked at a wide range of issues, including the fact that the development of standard practices and the increased integration of electronic resources has led to network technologies reducing the distinctions which have traditionally existed between groups such as librarians, curators and publishers. Humanities scholarship is now increasingly characterised by collaboration, rather than individuals working alone.

A book by any other name

Article Abstract:

The Internet can provide a large amount of material on the humanities and literature. Newsgroups are useful as are electronic academic journals. Telnet can provide access to online catalogues in libraries world wide. Texts can be accessed in Ascii format, and full text is on offer for some works. Texts can be analysed remotely using searching software from the host institution. Archie servers can provide freeware and shareware. Cern's Virtual Library is also useful for specialists.
