Chapter and verse?

Article Abstract:

Academic Dr Manuel Santos-Noya's claim to have discovered the Latin Bible used by Martin Luther to translate the New Testament and the five books of Moses into German in 1522 has caused great controversy among theologians, historians and handwriting experts. Santos-Noya maintains that the annotations in the small volume, which he discovered while cataloguing the 2,000 Latin Bibles in the Wurttemberg State Library in Stuttgart, Germany, indicate that it belonged to Luther. However most historians and paleographers who have examined the book, or copies of it, have cast doubt on Santos-Noya's theory.

Case settlemnt out of court

Article Abstract:

A United Kingdom university has settled a sex discrimination case out of court, a move which has been followed by calls from a university teachers' labor union for an ombudsman to help settle academic labor disputes. Teesside University allegedly paid less to a woman head of studies in a math, statistics and computing department than to her male colleagues. The Association of University and College Lecturers has written to the secretary of state for education calling for an independent system, which, through appeals or an ombudsman can resolve such dispute with less waste of resources.

Grass not so green on other side of Wall

Article Abstract:

German reunification has led to many new institutions of higher education being formed. Academics from the former east have lost their jobs, many because of supposed collaboration with the secret police or membership of political parties. Universities in western Germany are overcrowded, and although at present only 5% of students travel from west to east the numbers may increase. Eastern colleges have a better staff-student ratio and degrees can be completed earlier.
