Article Abstract:

The ocean floor has never been mapped completely because the sea is opaque to radio waves, and mappers must rely on acoustic instruments that have to go into the water. Scientists believe that deep-sea exploration will now be revolutionized by the creation of a deep ocean observatories, linked by sea-floor cables.
