Data row sparks research debate

Article Abstract:

A debate on the responsibilities of academics when producing research papers has been demanded following the discovery that research findings on Actonel, an osteoporosis drug produced by Procter and Gamble Pharmaceuticals, were released under the name of researchers from Sheffield University despite these academics not conducting their own independent analyses of the company's drug trial data. The case highlights divisions between industry and academics over what is deemed to be acceptable practice when academics are sponsored by companies to produce joint research papers.

Sex bias limits women in RAE

Article Abstract:

Female academics are being denied the recognition for the research activities that is essential to their career prospects as a result of "institutionalised sexism", according to a study by the Association of University Teachers.
