Don't lose MSc magic

Article Abstract:

An analysis of the crisis facing postgraduate-taught MSc courses as a result of a lack of funding. A number of universities in the UK have decided to drop their vocational-taught MSc courses as they were not generating an high enough level of financial return. It is argued that for some professions, MSc courses are the primary source of trained personnel, therefore if these professions are to continue to have potential employees, the MSc courses that produce them must bring in enough income to the universities to be viable.

Masters market hots up

Article Abstract:

A survey of the 20 universities with the largest numbers of masters courses has found growing differences in fees. The London School of Economics (LSE) charges GBP 8454 per year for many taught masters, almost three times the GBP 3168 charged for many courses at Nottingham University, Imperial College London and Sheffield University.

Cambridge asks questions of its many masters

Article Abstract:

A report by the educational policy advisory board of the University of Cambridge suggests an inconsistency in the marking standards in its various masters degree courses. This has led to a debate on the autonomy of its departments and the increasing recruitment of lucrative students.
