EU learns a vital lesson from BSE

Article Abstract:

There have been several important changes to the European Union's Sixth Framework program proposed by the European Commission. The goal of this research program is to secure funds for research into areas not yet identified. Because of the BSE scare, one of the European Commission's proposals includes setting aside funds for more concentrated research in food safety.

How resilient are the different welfare systems across Europe as the claims made upon them rise

Article Abstract:

If European Union countries hope to keep up with the increasing demand on welfare and state health care systems, they must take the unpopular step and raise taxes. Looking over past statistics, European welfare has been resilient to change, but looking at current political actions, the future of welfare does not look as strong.

EU fears over class of 2050

Article Abstract:

There is widespread concern across the EU about the impact a projected fall in population for some EU countries by 2050 will have on higher education. Eurostat, EU statistical agency, Italy's population of 58.2 million will fall to 52.7 million in 2050 and Germany's will fall to 74.6 million rom 82.6 million.
