Electronic Teaching: Computer Graphics

Article Abstract:

A highly motivating factor in getting students to learn programming is computer-generated animation, as in the Disney film, TRON. Prior to learning animation, there are several levels of computer graphics. First is learning to use the PRINT statement, and second the PLOT or POKE commands. Two useful tools for schools to acquire for students interested in computer art include a digital pad or graphics tablet, which costs about $350 to $1000 and a plotter which costs about $1000, or at a lesser expense, Radio Shack's color graphics printer ar $249.95. Included in this article are examples of computer art.

Electronic Teaching: Inside the Computer

Article Abstract:

A simplified explanation and a few analogies are presented to help teachers explain to students how the computer works inside. First the basic functions of input, processing, storage and output are described, and the parts of the computer system are introduced. Analogies and a diagrammatic model illustrate. Next, communication between devices and internal memory are described. Finally, the diagram is used to explain how a short BASIC program is processed, showing the relationship between the program and the computer.
