Engineering fault in the system(entry requirements for UK engineering courses)

Article Abstract:

There is a perception that entry requirements for UK engineering courses are less demanding than for humanities courses. This is not the case when the data are examined in detail. In general the entry requirements are similar, though there are a few university engineering departments that do accept students with low grades. There is a case for removing departments that do not perform well. Some students would be better off learning to become engineering craftsmen than graduate engineers. This may occur once students have to contribute more to the cost of their education.

Is that the sound of pop eating itself?

Article Abstract:

An analysis of the mixed postmodern message and virtual world of Gorillaz, an animated pop band for which Damon Albarn, front-man of Blur, provides his vocal talents in the guise of 2D. Gorillaz, formed as an attack on the growing trend towards manufactured pop acts, grates with some critics, who find the attacks on manufactured pop acts either hypocritical, given Gorillaz overtly manufactured nature, or redundant, given the inherent critical qualities of the band's music and accompanying visual representations.

A law unto itself; the Bar is tightening its grip on entry

Article Abstract:

The UK Bar restricts the numbers of those entering law at the vocational stage. Changes in higher education course structures mean that some lawyers will only have studied six subjects instead of 12-14 as before they enter the profession. A comparison with other countries shows that this approach is unique. Longer, in-depth law studies are required elsewhere.
