Exhibition of dazzling light

Article Abstract:

The Multimedia Dictionary of Modern Art is a worthwhile, inexpensive and a mostly comprehensive guide to modern art. It provides 3,500 good quality images which are accessed through the Slide Show. Some images include video and audio. Images can be stored in a 'light box' but they cannot be downloaded. Some 120 pictures can be examined more closely by using the zoom facility although the quality suffers slightly. The CD does not include a menu or icons which can cause some difficulty. The cost of the CD is 69.95 pounds sterling. It is produced by Thames and Hudson.

Article Abstract:

The Evolution CD-ROM comprises 20 classic papers written by people such as R.A.Fisher and Dobzhansky, and five tutorials which include subjects such as evolutionary genetics, macroevolution and paleontology. The CD-ROM is very well made and undergraduates will find it useful to use the material as extension to their course-notes. Theories of evolution are presented in a variety of ways which include extracts of narrated films and animated sequences. The CD-ROM is produced by Mark Ridley for Macintosh/Windows and retails for 29.50 pounds sterling.

What happened to scientists' academic freedom?

Article Abstract:

The racial theories of Professor Jean-Philippe Rushton of the University of Western Ontario are still being published despite causing offense and media outcry, with the university claiming to support academic freedom despite a potential criminal investigation that would have cited academic publications as evidence. Professor Peter Duesberg challenged the established view on the origins of Aids and was widely vilified by his peers without his arguments being debated.
