The French minister for technology, education and research, Claude Allegre, has been replaced, and Roger-Gerard Schwartzenberg replaces him in charge of research. There has been a period of reform, and there will be a need to restore calm. Changes are discussed in further detail.

French PM moves to promote innovation

Article Abstract:

France is seeking to promote high technology and innovation and academics are to become involved in setting up new businesses, according to French prime minister, Lionel Jospin. This follows a report which criticized lack of communication between business and researchers. Priority areas include electronics, biotechnology and information technology. State intervention is justified due to the benefit to society as a whole from these activities. Tax changes may also help start-up companies.
