Graduates face two-tier jobs market

Article Abstract:

A survey of university graduates in the UK has revealed that thousands still earn under UKPd20,000/yr by the age of 30, challenging the positive picture put forward by many about the earnings potential of graduates. The research, conducted by academics at Bath, Cardiff and Essex universities, reveals that over the past 10 years there has been an increasing polarisation in the incomes of the worst and best-paid graduates and calls for a review of all the evidence about graduate careers and earnings.

Big gap between expectation and reality

Article Abstract:

An analysis of the expectations teenagers have about the impact an university degree will have on their earning potential and how these expectations compare with reality. In general, teenagers have an inflated idea of the difference a degree will have on their pay packet, expecting to be earning, on average, UKPd9,100 more with a degree than if they had opted not to go to university.
