Article Abstract:

American popular culture does not allow women to challenge traditional gender roles by traveling to outer space. Most women are bound by gravity to the earth, and the few who do go into space become alien-like. An extraterrestrial feminist theory examines gender identity and the presence of women in space.

Cell differentiation has been a mystery for many years. Work done on the fruit fly shows that variations from the normal fly were due to the 'homeobox' gene, which is also found in frogs, mice and people. Recent work has included the creation of extra ribs in mice with the gene.
