Healthy liaisons with the drug barons

Article Abstract:

The value of collaboration between academia and the pharmaceutical industry is illustrated by a new training scheme for clinical pharmacologists. Trainee clinical pharmacologists spend two years in an academic department, two years in the National Health Service and one year in the clinical pharmacology unit of a major pharmaceutical company, opening up a range of job opportunities upon qualification. Collaboration is also important since the future of the pharmaceutical industry is likely to depend on the outcome of genetic research being carried out in universities.
