High noon in the lecture hall

Article Abstract:

Postgraduate tutors can sometimes find it very hard to cope with difficult student behaviour. They may be obliged to teach students who are considerably older than them, and may be placed in a difficult position by the fact that they are less respected by the students than older members of staff. They are often used to teach seminar groups, where the intimate atmosphere may encourage students to behave in unacceptable ways. In many cases, it takes some time for the postgraduate student to realise that the behaviour of an individual student or group of students is unacceptable.
