Hold a tutorial in cyberspace

Article Abstract:

The Open University (OU) has developed on online business course which the management hope will further the role of the OU. The Lyceum package was developed by several departments in the OU working closely together. To help tutors, who may have little experience of online teaching, tutorial notes are provided. The package will be used for groups of 12 students who can utilize the voice conferencing facility and see the information displayed on the computer. Some teachers have found Lyceum improves group discussions as participants have to listen more closely to each other.

Open road to OMI sweet home

Article Abstract:

The European Union has just introduced Framework 4 for Research and Technology Development, which is to replace previous funding programmes Esprit and RACE. The Open Microprocessor systems Initiative (OMI) is one project to be pursued as a Focussed Cluster under Framework 4. The initiative aims to develop application-specific integrated processors, and develop 'open-systems' at microprocessor level.

MAN-to-MAN conversations link video tutorial experiments

Article Abstract:

The MAN-based Tutoring in Computer-Human Interaction (MANTCHI) project was launched in February 1997 by four universities in Scotland. The project aims to promote collaboration between universities using Metropolitan Area Networks (MANs), and it is financed by the Scottish Higher Education Funding Council. The four universities involved are Napier, Heriot-Watt, Glasgow, and Glasgow Caledonian.
