Academics abandon Tories

Article Abstract:

The proportion of academics at UK universities planning to vote Conservative in the Jun 7, 2001, election has fallen to 5% vs 8% in 1997 and 15% in 1992. Of the 501 academics surveyed, 327 shared their voting intention, with 65% choosing Labour, 22% the Liberal Democrats and 7% the Conservatives.

'Unwieldly' DTI under attack

Article Abstract:

Issues concerning criticisms addressed to the Department of Trade and Industry and to the Office of Science and Technology regarding their entrepreneurial initiatives are discussed. It is emphasized that the two bodies lack innovative and entrepreneurial drive.
