'If students are really going to keep their noses to the grindstone for 40 weeks a year, they won't have much time to earn money on the side'

Article Abstract:

An analysis of the possibility of introducing an intensive two-year degree course for students who would prefer to get their university studies done more quickly than is currently possible. It is argued that while it is possible to cram the content of a three year course into two years, there are financial implications to be considered as the more intensive form of degree would leave less time for students to work and thereby limit the amount of debt they run up while at university.

'If you were picking a team to run in the Olympics, you wouldn't interview them about running; you'd watch them run'

Article Abstract:

A personal account of the admissions system at Oxford University, with particular attention paid to the interview system. It is argued that the interviews are completely unnecessary, that they inflict undue stress on those called for interview and that a system of entrance tests would be much more productive.
