Article Abstract:

A positive image of vocational-technical education should be developed by vocational institutes to convince people of the quality of their services and products. Their program must be geared toward employers' and students' needs, competency-based education and state-of-the-art technology. The physical venue must be conducive to learning and teamwork with adequate resource and reference materials. Students are expected to devote time, commitment, enthusiasm and trust in exchange for training, while teachers must promote a positive image of their institute, program and students.

Vocational education should form an essential part of educational reforms, and efforts are on to prepare skill standards for vocational education. The integration of vocational education and general academics is necessary as more students want to attend college. Some of the measures suggested to help vocational education survive include the retraining of teachers, more funding for poor schools and establishing high standards for students.
