Inquiry into 'deplorable dumbing down' move

Article Abstract:

Standards at De Montfort University are being investigated by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) following a report in The Times Higher Education Supplement which revealed that the university's School of Pharmacy elected to automatically improve the exam result of students by up to 14% because their performance on the M Pharm degree had been so poor. The university claims that it never compromised standards but the RPS has placed the university "on probation" while it investigates the "fitness to practice" as pharmacists of students at De Montfort.

Oxford tutor attacks Cambridge interview

Article Abstract:

Dawn Chatty, an Oxford University admissions tutor, has attacked her counterparts at Cambridge University for using what she claims are discredited "bullying and intimidating" interview techniques. Chatty made the claims after her daughter was rejected for a place to study medicine. Chatty contends that Cambridge's Downing College ignored its own policy guidelines when her daughter was interviewed last year and used interview techniques that both Oxford and Cambridge insist have long since been abandoned in favour of more inclusive techniques.
