Is your pension funding this?

Article Abstract:

An analysis of the ethical issues arising from institutional investments, such as those made by the Universities Superannuation Scheme, the third largest occupational pension scheme in the UK with 170,000 members and a fund of UKPd18 bil. Some argue that institutional investments should reflect the views of members and avoid investing in things like tobacco and the arms trade, others argue that the whole point of investment schemes is to make money for the investors and therefore they should simply select the companies that are more likely to show a good return on investment.

Study in limbo, afraid of that knock on the door

Article Abstract:

An analysis of the state of fear in which refugee scholars in the UK live as a result of the arbitrary power that the immigration authorities hold over them. John Akker, executive secretary of the Council for Assisting Refugee Academics, argues that the treatment of many refugee students and academics is terrible, stating that the quality of decision-making by the immigration authorities is appalling, leaving people living in a state of limbo while they take years to come to a decision.
