Just a regular type of guy

Article Abstract:

The UK Mergers and Monopolies Commission (MMC) Chairman Derek Morris suggests the Government should be able to intervene in business to ensure the process of competition is maintained. Morris agrees the success of the MMC is difficult to judge. Morris's appointment was greeted by some scepticism from industry observers. They considered his academic background as not sufficient experience to run the MMC. Morris feels he has the necessary capabilities to do the job and he has access to industry experts. He was an applied economist and a fellow at Oriel College, Oxford, England.

Assemblies minus instruction manuals

Article Abstract:

The unwritten British constitution is proving to be ineffective for modern social and political conditions. The local authorities, which are the only representative institutions outside the central government, are in a very poor state, and academic study has failed to present the constitution in a unified way. It is now time for reform, setting up clear constitutional links between central and local government.

Get out into the real world

Article Abstract:

Social scientists often find it difficult to get government funding because funding for social sciences research is hard to justify to the tax paying public. Social scientists need to find a way to show concrete and useful results for their research in order to win the attention of the public.
