Labour's 'spineless' stand up to Blair

Article Abstract:

An examination of issues over which the UK's Labour government could experience high levels of dissent from its own backbench MPs during autumn 2003, as well as an examination of past dissent from Labour backbenchers. It is argued that Labour backbench MPs do not deserve their reputation for being sheep, blindly doing what their party tells them to do, and that, in fact, Labour backbenchers have tended to rebel more often and more vociferously than their Conservative counterparts.

...believe that political research is too important to languish in journals

Article Abstract:

An analysis of the various methods of disseminating academic research. It is suggested that, while some research can only be dealt with by scholarly journals, other research can be presented in various different forms and that scholars too often ignore the ability of television to spread their research to a much wider audience.

A smug smile at Blair's defeat

Article Abstract:

An analysis of Tony Blair's relationship with the Parliamentary Labour Party and the Government's defeat in two votes in the House of Commons. It is argued that the majority of people had underestimated the impact that the Labour Party's reduced majority would have on Blair's ability to force through legislation.
