Lets refocus efforts on building brighter future

Article Abstract:

The vice-chancellor of Fort Hare University argues that a partnership between state, society and universities is vital for the development of South Africa. It is contended that universities in South Africa must demonstrate responsibility and responsiveness in the way they govern themselves and develop a mutually supportive partnership with civil society and state if they are to participate in key national projects, such as biotechnology, e-learning, manufacturing and modernisation of the public sector.

The impact of Liverpool's three universities, namely Liverpool, Liverpool John Moores and Liverpool Hope, on the cultural, social and economic advancement of the city is discussed. The various opportunities offered by the universities to enable this significant change are presented.

An analysis of the changing face of Muslim students at universities in the UK. It is argued that today's Muslim students are more likely to be comfortable with their faith then those from previous generations and that lecturers should be doing more to engage with them.
