Lottery cash fears put pressure on Greenfield

Article Abstract:

Doubts have been cast over the future of Baroness Susan Greenfield in her role as director of the Royal Institution as fears emerged of an embarrassing gap in its financial plans. Concerns have been raised that the Institution may not be able to raise matching funds for an almost UKPd5 million Heritage Lottery Fund, which would mean that the Institution would be forced to withdraw from the most ambitious building project in its 200-year history.

Barts fears for research future if services move

Article Abstract:

The London, Queens Mary's School of Medicine has warned that it faces possible ruin if the Government reneges on hospital redevelopment plans. The Government has confirmed that extensive investment plans at St Bartholomew's (Barts) and the Royal London hospitals are being reconsidered due to fears that the institutions will be unable to cope with their debts.

Researchers may play dirty to beat REF

Article Abstract:

Several senior academics are critical of the upcoming Research Excellence Framework (REF) which would assess science research quality based ion the citations of an academic's work by peers. The possibility of academics indulging in manipulations of publication procedures to gain maximum citations is a cause for concern.
