My family and other animals

Article Abstract:

Princeton University, US, Philosopher Peter Singer is a supporter of the animal rights movement but disapproves of the violence perpetrated by some groups. Singer has been criticised for not complying with ideas put forward in his book, concerning non-voluntary Euthanasia, when dealing with his mother who is suffering from Alzheimer's. All the money earned from his two most popular books is sent to charities and he also contributes some of his salary to charity. Singer's latest book, 'A Darwinian Left', discusses the issue of determinism. He is also writing a book about his grandfather.

Genial observer of lab animals

Article Abstract:

Bruno Latour, a philospher, anthropologist and sociologist, is well known for his work in science studies. He is professor of sociology at the Centre of Sociology of Innovation in Paris. He belives that research offers the most useful unsights into the work and behaviour of scientists, and that the philosophy of sciences has traditionally focused on science only its reconstructed, rationalised textbook form.
