Not getting angry is really all the rage these days

Article Abstract:

Female academics are advised to think twice about when, how and how often they get publicly angry with their colleagues if they want to avoid being labelled as hysterical and having their views dismissed out of hand. It is pointed out that while the occasional angry outburst can have an impact, losing one's temper all the time will lessen this impact, and that more respect will be attached to responses of somebody who mainly puts forward calm, well thought out arguments.

Article Abstract:

An analysis of the relationship between university lecturers and teachers and their students and how this relationship differs from that between school teachers and their students. It is noted that university lecturers may appear to their students to be more like their peers than anything else, but the power balance still exists and it is only proper for faculty members to maintain a professional distance from their students.

Be rigorous at the start and the marriage will survive

Article Abstract:

Analysis of the relationship between PhD students and their supervisors and advice on how to make the relationship a successful one. It is suggested that the relationship between the supervisor and the student is not unlike a marriage and that both parties need to know precisely where they stand at the start of the relationship if the marriage is to be a successful one.
