On the shoulders of giantesses?

Article Abstract:

The position of women in science has been researched by a group of women scientists known as the Network on Women in Science of the European Technicology Assessment Network (Etan). They found women were less likely to be awarded research grants. In France some 39 out of the 40 scientific groups within the research council are headed by men. Only four out of the 100 members of the European Science and Technology Assembly are women. The Etan report suggests the academic world could learn from the private sector about how to make the employment of women easier.

In pursuit of the new paradigm

Article Abstract:

The Said Business School at Oxford University, England, sees research as an important contributor to the school's success. Mari Sako heads the research program, and is also the business school's deputy director. There will be some 70 academics in the school's new building, though more may be housed. There will also be staff based in the college, giving a total of over 100 academics over three to five years. She sees a need for collaboration with academics from different disciplines and not simply business studies.
