Women's work gets less male attention

Article Abstract:

Male academics are not citing work by female peers as often as they should when writing papers, according to a study by Malin Hakanson, librarian at Hogskolan Vast University in Sweden. Citations of three international journals of library and information sciences between 1980 and 2000 were analysed and in 2000, 30 percent of citations in papers by male academics related to female authors, while 70 percent related to make authors.

Overseas students shun bars for books

Article Abstract:

A survey of 357 international students from over 20 universities in the UK found that they are keener on reading, shopping and using the Internet than their British peers. International students are also more likely to graduate debt-free and 52 percent spend nothing on alcohol during the average week, vs only 24 percent of UK-born students.
