Professional promiscuity; were rumours of the demise of the MBA exaggerated?

Article Abstract:

In the UK there are 116 business schools which offer the Master of Business Administration (MBA) course. Although applicationsfor courses have fallen, there are still 55% of UK managers with no business qualification, a large number compared with Germany. Some British observers feel the courses can be too American, and are unhelpful when we deal mostly with European companies. The MBA may be declining as employers focus more on short, specific courses rather than general business teaching.

The beached buoy: the Brent Spar oil storage buoy is still stranded in Norway after plans to dump it at sea were abandoned. (Risk)

Article Abstract:

The Brent Spar oil storage buoy awaits a decision on its fate in Norway after it was towed there by Shell, and there are continued arguments about whether it should have been disposed of in deep water northwest of the Hebrides. The government had granted a deep-sea disposal licence based on a best practicable environmental option (BPEO) study, but the public reaction was in opposition to the scientific advice because the science failed to convey a clear message.
