Promoting systemic, statewide inclusion from the bottom up

Article Abstract:

A bottom-up, context-specific change model that focused on providing professional development at each level of the system and helping communication across the levels is described. The strategy was found to produce lasting changes in two states in policy and local implementation of policy and serves as a model for teachers and principals seeking to promote inclusion of students with disabilities in general educational classroom.

The role of 1:1 individual instruction in reading

Article Abstract:

General and special educators worry about the differences in academic levels between students with and without disabilities and this question is raised frequently in regard to reading instruction. It is suggested that 1:1 instruction that is often delivered in the general education classroom should be used as a model for providing students with disabilities with access to specialized assistance.

Literate thought and multiple literacies

Article Abstract:

Many students are facing difficulties in accessing academic content information because the information that reflects school knowledge is obtained through printed texts which will not provide opportunities to develop problem solving ability, developing other higher-level critical thinking skills. The real goal of education of students should be the development of literate thought.
