RAE selection gets brutal

Article Abstract:

Several academic careers are at risk as the UK universities have begun the rather brutal process of confirming which staff will have their work submitted in the 2008 research assessment exercise (RAE). The 2008 exercise is considered to be the most selective process ever, with research-intensive universities competing to improve their ranking by including only 'world-leading' submissions.

The program involves not only research and teaching by fellows but also expects them to make schoolchildren and institutions understand the value of their research and arouse interest in a research career.
