Review to make Pimlott 'more accountable'

Article Abstract:

A review team has recommended that a new tier of senior managers be established at Goldsmiths College following complaints that the management style of Ben Pimlott, warden of the college, is too "autocratic". The review team, which was established in 2002 as a result of controversy over the reappointment of Pimlott to the position of warden and a vote of no-confidence in him by staff, has recommended that two new senior posts, those of senior pro-warden and full-time deputy warden, be created, thereby making the warden more accountable.

MA tutors 'refuse to supervise critics'

Article Abstract:

Tutors at Sheffield University have refused to supervise of a number of masters students in a translation studies course after the university upheld a number of complaints made by the students about the quality of the course and the teaching they were receiving. Sheffield refused to comment on the issue, saying that the complaint was yet to be fully resolved under the student complaints procedures, but the move by the lecturers is in danger of becoming the basis of a landmark contractual row.

London Met set for race probe

Article Abstract:

London Metropolitan University (LMU) faces prosecution under race relations legislation following a complaint to the Commission for Racial Equality from lecturers' union Natfhe. The Natfhe complaint alleges that LMU has not undertaken the written assessments of the impact that its policies have on its staff from ethnic minorities that it is legally required to conduct.
