Scottish foster next generation of Logie Bairds for pride and profit

Article Abstract:

Scottish universities are involved in attempts to develop a new breed of Scottish entrepreneurs who will help to bring about economic regeneration in the country. Jim Wallace, the Scottish Executive's deputy first minister and minister for lifelong learning, states that higher education is central to the government's ambitions, both in commercialising research and in creating an entrepreneurial culture in which graduates will be instilled with a spirit of enterprise and innovation that will help both their employers and the wider economy.

Scottish merger may 'enhance FE status'

Article Abstract:

The Scottish Higher Education Funding Council has just celebrated holding it 100th council meeting but Chris Masters, chairman of the council, hopes that the body will not survive to celebrate its bicentenary and will instead merge with the four-year-old Scottish Further Education Funding Council. The Scottish Executive has promised to merge the two bodies, possibly in 2005, and Masters believes that such a move would encourage lifelong learning and enhance the status of further education.
