Shadow games as the sun set

Article Abstract:

Foreign Office documents relating to Indian Political Intelligence (IPI) reveal that the British authorities in India operated a skillful and wide-ranging surveillance operation against the forces of nationalism from around the time of the first world war to the granting of Indian independence in 1947. IPI, which operated out of London, England, was responsible for countering any kind of subversion of British rule in India. IPI was pursuing all kinds of people by the 1930s, intelligence-gathering being regarded as the only way of retaining political advantage as Congress rose to power.

Power and glory games

Article Abstract:

The North report's suggested changes to Oxford University, Oxford, England, may irrevocably damage the spirit of the university and alter proven teaching methods. The idea of bringing in assessments may threaten the tutorial system which acts as an impetus for discussing study topics. The examination system, at Oxford, has been shown to be faulty. Highly respected scientists were given low grades in their examinations. The North report suggests Oxford should be governed by one body. Sir Peter North and his commission carried out the study on Oxford University.

Lads of hope and glory

Article Abstract:

Oasis is a pop group that offers hope to young men who have been dispossessed by economic change. The group projects a working class image. The music industry is one of the few areas where men predominate and can make a career without fear of competition from women. Studio engineering courses have become popular with boys. Craft is being rediscovered by young men for whom the music industry offers a scarce opportunity for a tradiitional-type job.
