Some missing guests at the revolutionary party

Article Abstract:

The advent of the electronic library poses some serious questions for those involved in the information industry, including librarians, publishers and students. In-depth research is needed into the many issues that relate to economic, technical, educational and cultural change. The path for librarians is unclear, but it is imperative that an active dialogue is maintained between all the sectors involved in making information resources available electronically. A conference organised by Bournemouth University has discussed two European digital library programs and examined the issues involved in the next stage of digital library implementation.

Ruler of Oman Sultan Qaboos believes Oman's best resource will become its educated population. Application for the Sultan Qaboos University is greatly over-subscribed, with women increasingly encouraged to pursue education and take up employment. Omani people educated abroad often return to Oman take up prominent positions. Sultan Qaboos is keen to generate a will to work among all the population, with people urged to take pride even in low-paid work.
