Stars in our eyes obscure the view

Article Abstract:

Issues relating to the inherent dangers of human space exploration and who, in the future, might be prepared to finance space missions are examined. It is suggested that the role model for future space exploration could come from people like Steve Fossett, a "serial adventurer" with the money to back up his interests. It is argued that while the first space pioneers will be impelled by an exploratory urge, their adventures will have epochal consequences, marking the first stages towards post-human evolution outside the realm of Earth.
